Washington DC

June 8, 2010

This year I didn’t go to Washington DC. But i have been there before. I have some knowledge aboutWashington DC though, like about the monuments and buildings and such. In my past experiences, I have seen museums and and statues and monuments. I have also seen the White House,  but from outside the gates. These experiences were very memorable and I can’t wait for more.

Dreams Reflection

June 8, 2010

Dreams are what make life how it is. I think that is what this poem is about. Also, you should hold on to your dreams or else life is nothing and boring and that there is nothing to look forward to if you don’t have a dream. “Hold fast to dreams, for when dreams go, Life is a barren field, frozen with snow.”

Dream Deferred Reflection

June 8, 2010

“Dream Deferred” is saying to not ignore your dreams and desires. It talks about what they think happens to dreams and disires and such.

Aquamarine by Alice Hoffman

Aquamarine

Alice Hoffman

Claire and Haley are spending their last summer together and they are trying to make it last as long as possible. Claire is moving to Florida with her Grandparents at the end of the summer.  Claire’s parents died when she was little and Claire is scared of the water.  Haley is the shy type.

After a huge storm and a huge high tide, they went to the pool and saw that it was closed off. They saw something in it so Haley dove in and saw a mermaid. The girls couldn’t believe it. The mermaid was in love with Raymond and so were the girls and she wouldn’t go back into the water until she went on a date with him. So they got an idea. On Aquamarine’s Date she wore one of Haley’s Mom’s long dresses that Claire decorated so it would hide her tale.  And they barrowed Claire’s Granddad’s wheel chair that he used when he hurt his back.

The two girls told her Grandfather about the whole thing and he believed them because he too had seen mermaids, down in Florida.  Raymond and Aquamarine really liked each other. But she had to go back. Before she left she gave the two girls a seashell each. So they could here each other when they were far away from each other.

This wonderful stories theme was fantasy and friend ship. At first I thought it was just another fairy tale and a book about friend ship. But I was only half right. I Realized in the end that is was also about helping others. Like when they helped Aquamarine back in the water before she turned to dust, and how Aquamarine gave the girls a seashell so they could here each other while they no longer lived near each other.

If you like the fairy tale books or books about friends, then I definitely recommend this book. I think that it is a very good book but it wasn’t one of my favorites. Yet still, it was an enjoyable book to read.  While I was reading it, I just had to know what happened at the end.

“Touched By An Angel”

April 16, 2010

I think the poem “Touched By An Angel” she talking about how she was lonely then she found love and she didn’t feel lonely any more. As if she was no longer empty. I disagree with her. Some times you do fell lonely but you not acually lonely. You have your friends and family by your side and thats what makes me complete.

“Woman Work”

April 16, 2010

In the poen “Woman Work,” it talks about all the things she does during the day. While I read this poem I thought of all the things that my mom does for me.  It really got to me. It made me think of how greatful I am for her.

F. Scott Fitzgerald

Alcoholic author died from a heart attack, while eating a chocolate bar.  This author is F. Scott Fitzgerald. He based his stories about real life events and changed the way people thought about fiction.

He was born in St. Paul. Minnesota on September 24, 1896.  Fitzgerald was named after the writer of the Star Spangled banner.  They were related somehow.  He lived a pretty normal childhood.  During his childhood, he moved a lot. His family finally settled in 1918, in St. Paul.  His mother was devoted to her only son.  Mary McQuillan, his mother, was the daughter of a successful wholesale grocer.

He was first educated at Hackensack, N.J. He started to write at St. Paul academy.  Then he attended Princeton University.  He failed to become a foot ball hero. Fitzgerald also left his studies because of his poor academic records.  In his senior year, he quit college to join the Army as a second lieutenant.  He worked briefly in New York for an advertising agency.

He worked in New York to try to support his future family. He was engaged to Ginevra King. They fell in love when he was 18 and she was 16. But Ginevra broke off the engagement and he fell in love with Zelda Sayre. They got married in New York. Zelda and him had a son named Frances Scott Fitzgerald. They called him Scottie. He was born in October 1921.

His dominate influences were aspiration, literature, Princeton, and alcohol.  He won the Peabody award for his writing.

Fitzgerald had two heart attacks. He died from the second one at age 44. He died while eating a chocolate bar. What he left behind was wonderful stories to read.

Summer

March 19, 2010

I can’t wait for Summer.  I love it when the sun is beating down and warms the air. I love throwing on a bathingsuit and flip-flops, or even shorts and a t-shirt.  Most of the time i never wear shoes.  The warm sand between my toes and the cool water is so relaxing.  All of my cousins are down and we all go tubing, water skiing, kneeboarding and wakeboarding.  We have such a blast.  During the Summer, we walk from the beach to Dairy Queen. The BEST part is that there is no school.  This is what i love about Summer.

Theme (Field Hockey and Lacrosse)

March 18, 2010

Indoor field hockey just ended a  few weeks ago.  Now lacrosse is starting up again.  I am playing for two teams in the spring.  Those teams are Coastal and Atlantic. I also tried out for Eastern Shore, which is a Summer league, and I made the team.
